Pakistan
Electric Power Company (Pvt) Ltd. (PEPCO), a Management Company,
wholly owned by Government of Pakistan, is assisting WAPDA and
its Corporatized Entities in the process of Corporatization and
Commercialization. PEPCO's primary purpose is to manage the 14
entites set-up under the Companies Ordinance 1984 on restructuring
of WAPDA's Power Wing.
Corporatization
will force focus on how best to deal with issues such as man power
transition, social, economic matters and enviromental policy.
These area will be viewed in the light of prevailing commercial
practices in efficiently run utilities.

PEPCO
- the new focus of the PPS
PEPCO establishes
control over the corporatized entities through its management
team under a business agreement with WAPDA and two nominees in
the Board of Directors of the companies.
The eight
(9) distribution companies-Discos, four(4) generation companies
- Gencos, and NTDC, Nation Transmission and Grid Company are regulated
through NEPRA, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority.
The
14 companies are being managed by PEPCO to adopt sound business
practices, systems and procedures which are designed to introduce
accountability, enhance transparency and objectivity and to have
prime focus on increasing efficency, cost reduction and introduction
of employee participation schemes to increase productivity and
profiltability
